Excel 2003
When using the Chart Wizard Excel makes assumptions about how your data should be presented within the chart. The range with the most rows or columns will be the Categories and the least rows or columns will be the Series. In the example data below selecting range A1:C13 would result in the Chart Wizard assuming we have 2 Series, 'Units Sold' and 'Revenue', with 12 Categories. The text above each column will be used for the Series name. The first column of data will be used as the Category labels.
Excel 2007+
Excel 2007+does not have a chart wizard as the Ribbon presents all of the major steps directly. Also note that the Format dialog is now modeless, which means when displayed other elements of the chart can be selected and the dialog will automatically update to reflected the newly selected item.
We start the same way by selecting
the range we want to chart. Then on the ribbon select Insert tab. The
ribbon will now display a Charts group.
Currently Excel does not offer any combination charts so we do have to
construct them ourselves.
