Excel Headers and Footers. See Also: Excel Printing
As the names suggest, a Header is something that appears at the top of every page, and a Footer is something that appears at the bottom of the page. In Excel, just about all efficient Excel spreadsheet designs contain Headers and/or Footers where appropriate. You can have only one Header and one Footer in each Worksheet, although you can have many variations. Most people use a header or a footer as an identifier of some sort and therefore there are some built-in fields that you can insert into your headers and footers for this use.
If you want to create a Header or Footer in Excel, there are two ways you can do it. You can do it from within Print Preview, by clicking the Setup button on the toolbar, then clicking the Header/Footer tab, or you can get there via the File menu by going to File>Page Setup and selecting the Header/Footer tab of the dialog box.
When you are in the Header/Footer dialog, click either the Custom Header or Custom Footer button. Both have identical options. Notice that there are three locations that you can place your header or footer in. The left section, centre section or right section of the page. You also have many options in the form of buttons to help you create your header/footer. Decide where you want your header or footer to go, then type it in or use one of the buttons to help you create it.
If you wish to format text, select your text then select the Font button on the toolbar. If you wish to insert either a page number, date, time, file path, filename or tab name, click the appropriate button from the toolbar. Note that if you use one of these buttons to do this, then the field you have inserted will automatically update. You can even insert and format a picture from the toolbar as well if this is your requirement.
Once you have made your selection, select OK to close the Header/Footer dialog, then OK to close the Page Setup dialog.
Note - Remember to ensure that your margins are wide enough to show your Headers or Footers.See Also: Excel Printing || Efficient Excel Spreadsheet Design
